How to Win a Moving Lead That Other Movers Got Too

When a lead goes to several movers, the customer picks the one who gives them a number they believe, first. You cannot control how many companies got the lead. You can control how fast you answer, whether your answer has a price range in it, and whether it shows you want to see the home. Reply the same day with a range and a walkthrough link, not a request to schedule a visit.

Here is the order to do it in, what to say, and the mistakes that lose these jobs.

    What the customer is doing

A customer who sent one request that landed with four movers is not loyal to any of them yet. They have a move date and a budget in their head, and they are waiting to see who answers with something useful. Most of the quotes they get will be a phone guess or a request to set up a visit.

That is the opening. The mover who answers first with a real range and an easy next step looks like the one who knows what they are doing. The others look like they are asking for work.

    Be first with a range

“When can I come out and look at it?” is the weakest first message a mover can send. It asks the customer for an evening before they know whether you are in their price range. “For a two-bedroom move like yours, we are usually in this range” gives them something to compare.

Give a range, not a final number. You have not seen the home, and a final number off a phone call is how a shop ends up eating hours in a garage nobody mentioned. Say plainly that the real number comes after you have seen what is moving.

Send a walkthrough link, not a visit time

The customer already said yes to a quote when they filled in the form. The quickest way to turn that into a real number is to see the home, and the quickest way to see it is a video. Put the link in your first text. The customer can film tonight, with no calendar to coordinate on either side.

Tell them what to film so you get all of it. A copy-ready message and the room-by-room list are in how to film a walkthrough for a moving quote. If the customer would rather talk, offer to walk the home with them on a live video call.

When the video comes in, you review the inventory and call back the same day with a number built from what is actually in the home. That puts you ahead of the movers still trying to find an evening to drive out. The full path is in how to quote a move without driving to the house.

    What the first message says

Short, with a range and one next step:

Hi [name], it’s [you] at [company]. For a [size] move from [city] to [city], most of ours come in between $[low] and $[high]. To give you a real number, can you film a quick walkthrough of the home on your phone? Here’s the link. I’ll call you back today once I’ve seen it.

Fill in the range from your own rates. Do not copy a range from someone else. A range you cannot stand behind is worse than none.

Follow up once more than feels natural

Most customers do not answer the first message. Follow up with one clear next step each time: first the walkthrough link, then a question about the move date, then a last note that you are holding a slot for them. Then stop.

Five messages in two days reads as pressure. Two or three, spaced out, reads as a company that wants the job and has other work.

Do not race to the bottom

The mover who quotes lowest off a phone guess is usually the mover who finds the extra rooms on move day. You will not win that fight and you should not want to. Compete on speed and on having seen the home. A quote built from a real inventory lets you hold your price when the customer pushes back, because you can show what is on it.

Where the lead is yours alone

A customer who fills in the quote form on your own website sent that request to you. It is not sold to anyone else. A shared lead is a race. A lead from your own site is yours, and it gets better the faster you answer.

MoveBlueprint puts a quote form on your website that shows the customer a range on the spot, then hands them a walkthrough, so the lead that reaches you already has a price in its hand and a home on video. How to set up the form is in what a moving quote form should ask.

    Quote faster, win the job.

See the quote form and walkthrough working on a website like yours. The quote form is free. Booking and the walkthrough are $199 a month, one login included, walkthroughs unmetered, no contract.

    FAQ

How do I win a moving lead that was sold to several movers?

Be first with a number the customer can believe. Reply the same day, give a range for a move like theirs, and ask to see the home on video instead of booking a visit. The customer picks from the movers who answered with something specific, and a price range plus a clear next step is more specific than "call me back."

Should I quote on the first call?

Give a range, not a final number. You have not seen the home, and a final number from a phone call is how a shop ends up eating hours on move day. The range shows you are in the running. The real number comes after you have seen the inventory.

How many times should I follow up?

Once more than feels natural, with one clear next step each time: the walkthrough link, then a question about the move date, then a last note that you are holding a slot. Stop after that. Five messages in two days reads as pressure and loses the job.

Is it worth competing on price for a shared lead?

Rarely. The mover who quotes lowest from a phone guess is the one who finds the garage on move day. Compete on speed and on having seen the home. A quote built from a real inventory lets you hold your price when the customer pushes back.

Are leads from my own website shared with other movers?

No. A customer who fills in the quote form on your own site sent that request to you. That makes your website the one place a lead is yours alone, which is why the quote form on your site matters as much as any lead you buy.
